Here's a collection of the notes I make every other week in Exeter City's matchday programme. I combine my experiences as a City fan with what is going on in the game over here. The Grecian was recently voted the best publication in Coca Cola League Two by Programme Monthly magazine, roll on the new season for the League One award...

The Gwinnett Gladiators defeated the Charlotte Checkers 2-1 tonight to take the Division Quarterfinals three games to none. Gwinnett now awaits the winner of the Augusta Lynx v. South Carolina Stingrays series. Augusta leads two games to none with game three to be played Monday night at the North Charleston Coliseum.

If Augusta wins, the Gladiators will face the Columbia Inferno in the Division Semifinals. If South Carolina comes back to win the series, Gwinnett will face the Stingrays.

Mike Hamilton and Jim Jackson scored second period goals for the Gladiators, then Gwinnett held on for the win. Charlotte's Lee Falardeau scored at 14:52 in the 3rd as the Checkers tried to mount a comeback but it was too late. Gladiators goalie Dan Turple made 23 saves as he was between the pipes for the first time in the series. Craig Kowalski was in goal for Gwinnett during the first two games. Kowalski and Turple only allowed two goals in the three games against Charlotte on 89 shots. The pair are the top two performing goalies in the Kelly Cup Playoffs thus far.

Gwinnett scored on another power play goal tonight and was 3 for 20 on power play while holding the Checkers scoreless on 17 power play opportunities. Gwinnett scored 10 goals in the series and racked up 18 assists.

Looking ahead, Gwinnett lost the season series to South Carolina 3-4. The Gladiators fared better against the Inferno, winning seven of the nine games they played this season. The Division Semifinals will begin either Wednesday or Thursday at the Gwinnett Arena.
